Church, what is the point?

The Church exists for nothing else but to draw men into Christ, to make them little Christs. If they are not doing that, all the cathedrals, clergy, missions, sermons, even the Bible itself, are simply a waste of time. God became Man for no other purpose.
- C.S. Lewis

Have you ever thought" what is the purpose of church?" Maybe church is just a social group of like minded people who get along with each other? There has got to be more to church than that doesn't there?

C.S. Lewis was right in saying the real reason the church exists is to draw us to Christ and make us little Christs in our world. And we, the church, do that through for main areas: glorifying God; building up each other; sharing the good news of Jesus; and doing good. Paul reminds us in Philippians 2:6-11 Jesus' primary purpose, in his life death and resurrection was to bring glory to God, and likewise in all we do, we too should seek to glorify God. Paul also reminds us throughout his letters that God has equipped each member of the church differently in order that we may use our gifts to build each other up. Jesus' last command to his followers in both Matthew and Acts is to make sure that the good news of Jesus is shared not just in their own area, but all over the earth. As the church we are also meant to be doing good. Concern for the fatherless, the widow, and those who suffer is appropriate for those who worship a God who himself shows such concern.

So let's glorify God; build up each other; share the good news of Jesus; and do good in order that we may continue to help make more little Christs!

Meet a Ministry Partner - Helen Blanch (New Hope International

New Hope International (NHI) is part of a worldwide network of God's people influencing nations through Christian education.

As the NHI Education and Leadership Director, my calling and passion is to equip teachers to be effective Christian educators who bring hope to the lives of children who are impacted by poverty. A teacher training program called "The Effective Teaching Series" is the key part of the Education for Change program being implemented by NHI. it is a discipleship approach that depends on trainers passing on what they have learned about educating students in a God fearing, Christ centred, Holy Spirit led and Bible based learning community that evidences the shalom life of God.

I have responsibility to train Christian teachers in Australia who then become part of teacher training teams who equip those in other nations to become trainers of their own colleagues. My role also involves writing and reviewing NHI educational and leadership material for our National Directors to use and assisting to get our education program accredited as part of overseas teacher training.

I want to express my deep gratitude to y church family at Riverstone for the love expressed both for me and the NHI ministry in Uganda through your generous support in prayer and giving.
